History of smiley

Filed under: Thoughts — Ankur Aggarwal @ 5:38 am

Harvey Ball, a Massachusetts graphic designer, created a yellow circle with 2 buttons for eyes and a curve for the smiley. Simple isn’t it.
It was created for an ad campaign for an insurance company for $45. Since neither he nor his company trademarked it, it belongs to the world.
So smile :)

Everybody has heard about Nike paying $100 prize money for its famous logo… a tick.
It makes me wonder the effectiveness of million dollar spend advertisement campaigns and brand makeovers. Is the money paid for company logo more to satisfy the ego of the owners?

Another point to be added to the theory of KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid!)

Dr. Seligman, is a professor for positive psychology. He believes that success comes from positive emotion, positive character traits, and positive institutions.
test
On his website (univ of penn), he has shared some tests to help you discover how happy you are, how good is your work-home life and how good is your relationship. Unfortunately the tests are not adaptive based on your previous responses, but anyhow its free (both the test as well as the results) so should be worth a try.
