Top most Firing IT companies in India

1) IBM — Right now this is the most firing company for IT professionals. In the last 6 months, this company has fired nearly 20% of their employees because of BG check and performance issues. This is the most insecure company from an IT professional’s point of view. They don’t have any strategic plans at HR policies regarding employee security. No appraisals (maximum 10%).

2) Accenture — This is second top most firing company. The firing rate is around 5%. This depends upon outsourced projects; they have a unique system where Accenture development centers around the world bid for a project coming into the company. Currently Philippines centre is taking the cake and the Indian centers are in a firing mode.

3) WIPRO — Firing people with very frequent back ground checks and firing them with out even experience letters and relieving letters (will mention as terminated from services)but will promise the employees that they will retain them. After the project is over they will fire away. Will threaten of criminal cases against such employees if they oppose the move and has also filed against some.

4) Intel — Recently joined the league. Running in heavy losses, hence firing 3000 employees in the Banglore center in a phased out manner.

5) CTS — Has a steady firing policy (checking the Educational background and previous employment and also employee performance in work). In a Recent HCL walk-in, around 50% attendees were from this company. Sadly the I-pods have not helped them.

6) CSC — Excellent package but fires folks in Background check and those on bench regularly. Recently fired 400+ employees from its subsidiary Covansys.

7) Satyam — Currently stopped firing. The Attrition rate is very high. No firing from 2005 until now when 1000 employees were fired in Hyderabad.

8. Patni —- They fired so many employees that currently they are facing understaffing and deficiency with number of employees. Very high attrition rate.

9) Keane India —- This USA based company is always involved in firing employees. Although they proudly say that they dont have hire and fire policy. Recently they fired java and as400 professionals after which most of the employees have started to pack their bags. Employees change this company within 1 year.

So take care before accepting offers from these companies.

Secure IT companies in India

1) Microsoft — Has projects till 2050.

2) EDS — Most secure company in India. Not laid off any of its employees even during 2001. Has lots of projects in Defense and financial areas

3) HP — Dream Company. In-house and outsourced projects

4) TCS — A govt. Company.

5) AOL, Google and Yahoo – Best companies to work with, great job satisfaction as well as great salary and work environment. Rarely fires an employee. As they are internet based companies’ they offer lots of opportunities to grow.

6) HCL — A good company to be in. Called as a retirement company.

7) HSBC— This is the most secure company. It has never fired any employee, even when they know that the employee is showing fake experience.

8. Aricent— a communication based software company, has never fired any employee and gives great perks & incentives, lot of projects in kitty. Minimal level of attrition.

9) KPIT Cumminns Infosystems Limited —- This is the most secure company not known to many. It has presently acquired CG Smith, Bangalore and has lots of projects in pipe line. Acquisitions plans will continue.

  1. If they are firing people under the pretext of ‘performance’ it is totally unacceptable. If ‘firing’ is a result of cost cutting measure then they should fire saying that as a reason. By using ‘performance’ as a reason they are making the candidate bad, and them a victim. In reality, the candidate who came out of a company may not be eligible for ‘unemployment’ benefits if he was ‘fired’ on performance basis (that is his mistake). Many countries give unemployment benefits to laid-off employees, that is, people who are laid off for no fault of their own.

In India when you look at things you see that both government, corporations and people don’t got any clue on how to deal with situations.

Unfortunately, the government is a mute spectator that doesn’t provide any support or legislation to demand employers to disclose the real reason behind the firing.

Also, a cursory look at last cycle performance report should clearly state whether a person was performing or not and a clear quantifiable reason to be given as to why his performance is not up to the level when he gets fired.

That way, the ‘fired’ employee could try it as ‘wrongful termination’ if that is possible.

  2. @SRKPRIV,
99% of the software companies offer the job with the condition that, they can terminate whenever they want. There is no difference between “firing” and “termination, because of lack of performance”. In both the cases, they have to pay the same amount to the employee. The difference is, if they fire, other employees may start searching for another job, and media may get attention. Other than that, there is no difference between the two.

If government interferes in these things, then entire software industry in india will collapse. You cannot see any industry influenced by government, where people can earn a lot of money. If government introduces many rules to terminate employees, then companies may shift to China and to other countries. This is one of the main reasons, why Europian countries could not overtake India and China.

  3. Hi Sathish,

You are correct. All conditions are already given to us so companies cant do anything in this crucial economic condition. But I feel still India will be the destination for Europe and America as they are in a positoin to accomplish all IT related jobs at low cost. Our salary may shrink for short while and freshers are no need worry as a company may fire employees but it never stop to hire new guys.

  5. hi,
i got placed in keane, but with the recent information i gathered from the employees and forums about keane, they say that the company’s revenue and projects has gone down and they have no idea of calling the candidates they recruited this year, even if they call, its sure that they will fire out blaming about their performance in training. when i call to the company they say that they start calling from nov,08 end and it will go till next 12 to 18 months.
what shall i do, so far no good about the company i heard. i am totally upset with all kind of responses regarding the company. please give some info with respect to my comments.

  6. Hi suresh , its simple
just keep on working hard on your learnings
    and search for openings,
if your a fresher – i guess try out http://www.freelancer.com and do some projects on your own efforts from this site (even if you dont get projects on freelancer.com ). if you show it on your resume , people respect you because they are good stand alone projects , they will not ask the proof that you have done the project or not but ask questions on it , so even a hard try is good .
if your experienced(>2 yrs) walkins are the best , and keep your notice period to as minimum as possible . the moment you leave your older company – join the next day in new company,
take leaves while you are in the organization
dont sit idle(its a blunder ) do something either join some course or try learning something on your own.(thats compulsory)

  7. Truely India is a country of rumour mongers. I request freshers not to look in to all these baseless allegations against the companies. Hope everyone knows the current financial problems. But still companies are ready to take risks for a better future. Only Indian companies have the fundamentals to withstand the Current turmoil. Every one has been talking on the list has anyone worked more than three or say four companies before penning down there own opinions on the companies. These things are just there to cause jitters or midnight blues for the joinees. People look before you open your mouth against any firm as you are not part of the system and even if you are the part you just do not understand it at all.

  11. Hi all,

I can say that all the companies are fire and hire companies because the software business polocies are the root cause for this, because if the market is down no one can do anything because they dont have the business and they cant effort the employees by giving the salaries, but firing is always not good as this is not good for the employee as his career will be spoiled.

In this aspect satyam is the ever worst company i know, because i know personally a lot of people who joined in backdoor by managing something in the interview, even though they have a very poor performance and they dont know where are the letters in the keyboard. all they know is to manage something and get into the company. i know most of the people who are unfit in doing the software profession ( like the people who are lazy and dont work hard or dont have enough basics to perform ) came into the satyam by managing the backdoor, as this makes the people who are hardworking and performing in the company are affected by their performance. i know some people like who work in some electronic work shop, just know how to do some sholdering and electronic goods repaires also joined in satyam by using the backdoor.

backdoor is such a bad way where it should not be done. because one lack the confidence and loose the oppurtuinity for the right people who are hardworking nature and righ persons to satisfy the current business. because of them the right persons will be suffered. so satyam is so bad company where it enciurages a lot of people like this and spoil the IT industry. i know if the person keeps some fake experience also it doesnt matter as he comes into the company by taking the interview and proves himself that he is capable in performing the activites, but the people like this who come in bckdoor are worthless and useless and so bad in making the right persons to loose their oppurtuinity

  13. I saw some guys have written that why education is required when its not a criteria in other companies.
While its not the the case in india too, as companies generally considers only experience. So one who suffers is one with good education, and IT Degrees dos not teach you any language they help you to improve your analytical ability and knowledge. which is more required actually but now a days companies just look for guys with just experience in particular area and chap options.so other guys take advantage of that.
would like to know what other thinks

  15. TCS and other TATA group companies like TATA Elxsi are among the first to fire. They fired during first half of 2008 itself. They guise cost-cutting in the name of performance, just like all other companies that fire. Even TATA Corus recently fired hundreds of employees in England.
