Bruni not to escort Sarkozy in India

While I was reading this news on NDTV, I could not help but wonder why Bruni was the center of controversy in the very first place.

Thinking like a simple villager, the only corollary I could draw was about inviting dignitaries to my daughters (formal) marriage. The first Dignitary was accompanied by his spouse, second by his fiance, and third by his friend (of opposite sex).

The questions I would ask are:
1) Should I treat the 3 companions differently?
2) Should I even care what is the relationship between my guest and his companion.
3) Should I even bother whether they are just friends, are sharing the same room, or married but on the verge of divorce.

My job is to conduct my marriage and the various festivities and customs associated with it in a proper fashion and not poke around in the private life of my guests.

By raising all this controversy India lost of creating another brand Ambassador for India. Bruni, like all beautiful women, are very influential. It does not matter whether they have an official powers or not, the worl (esp Sarkozy) would listen to each and every world they say and its hard to refuse their requests. Since Bruni was not officially married, she was not expecting much. However if India would have still showered even half the kind of hospitality which we did on Bill Clinton, I am sure we would have won her heart.

  1. I dont see your concerns, as Indian govt didnt deny any hospitality to Carla Bruni. We just want to know what sort of hospitality would be appropriate.

And if you thought that in my marriage you and your unmarried companion would get the same room then forget it. You would not even be in 100m radius of her room.

    1) if there is a question about official status, then just pick up the phone and dial the French Embassy /President himself… why make such a fuss about it in the media….
    2) there r indian politicians that have carried 100 distant relatives on an international visit… i am sure one lone friend would not be a big burden…. India should have used it as an opportunity by going out of our way and inviting her to Taj Mahal….
think first official visit photos would have been published in all the papers of the world.. and with Taj Mahal/Red Fort in the back drop… think how much tourism we could have promoted.

    @amit….
    1) what i/she does in her private life is none of your business… if sharing room is such a big trouble.. book another room.. Raspati bhawan is probably the biggest residence in India.

if you cannot treat her like a couple, them treat her as you would treat the President’s family.

  4. I wonder who created this useless fuss. It is upto guest whom he brings along. And pity he went to Taj by his own.

Carla Bruni is so hated by Sarkozy’s ex-wife so much that the latter wrote a autobiography debasing her. Her autobiography is called “Nothing Serious.” But the fact a President in office wanted to marry his girlfriend is very interesting to me. 🙂

i am not sure, but i won’t be surprised if tabloids (ToI) raised it.

Thats exactly what i was also saying…. it won’t have cost us a single penny to extend the official welcome to her… and in doing so we would have won a lot of goodwill.

i don’t think any wife would like the mistress…. 🙂

thanks for pointing… i will go through it. 🙂

maybe the french like their president to be virile. 😉
Sarko’s immediate predecessor, Jacques Chirac, had a string of mistresses. He is even rumored to have carrying 2 of them simultaneously on a single vacation.

Chirac’s predecessor François Mitterand actually had a second family whom he regularly visited and even had an illegitimate daughter.
Mitterand’s predecessor Valéry Giscard d’Estaing was a seedy Lothario whose sexual escapades were well known.

So French really have a colorful life
