LTTE and Tamil Refugees

LTTE started with a very noble cause. Since the 70s it fought for the rights of the Tamil people. Initially the Tamils were treated real bad by the Sinhalese. However the success of this extremist outfit forced the government to treat them like equals.
This 30 year long civil war in Sri Lanka has caused a lot of casualties on both sides. However the real people who suffered were the tens of thousands of refugees who were displaced. Almost every mile of the shore of Tamil Naidu (India) has a refugee camp.

India’s history of treating migrants (even from parts of its own country) is abysmally bad. Biharis and Bangladeshis are regularly singled out and rounded up by not only mobs of civilians but also the police. However there is a lot of sympathy for tamil refugees in Tamil Naidu. (Which also explains their ubiquitous presence) So the question is
“Will the Sri Lankan refugees ever return back to their mainland?”
“What will the government of India do?”

  1. Your article is kind of messed up. Just so you know:
They started off by fighting for the Tamil people’s rights in Sri Lanka, but later on ended up asking for a separate state fot the Tamils. The Government refused, and that’s when they started to bomb places and kill innocent civilians.

    Also:
NORTH India’s treatment of migrants is abysmally bad. Except for terrorist country-people and some other select countris, SOUTH Indoa has treated its migrants extremely well.

  2. yep. I agree with the person who wrote above–you need to get your facts right.

And also: What’s with the “real bad” business? Your name seems Indian- not American! 😀

But apart from that nice English usage.

  3. I know for sure that Bihari migrant labor have had a huge problem in getting employed as unskilled labor in kerala and tamil naidu. Even in Karnataka they were often singled out and discriminated against by the police and law enforcement agencies. so would not agree totally to the above statement…

however of course there are more migrants in North India than in South because of the country’s geography.. that would probably explain why the number of incidents are higher in north than in South
